Jessica Lee Rose

Jessica Lee Rose, better known as her YouTube phenomenon alter-ego lonelygirl15, was at the Webby Awards earlier in the week to pick up the Best Actress award and present a gong to the founders whose service made her famous. Steve Chen and Chad Hurley picked up an accolade for Webby Person of the Year and were joined by the likes of the Beastie Boys (Webby Artist of the Year) and David Bowie (Webby Lifetime Achievement).

Yet another indication of the rise of celebrity online. From the likes of Lily Allen’s MySpace to Jessica’s burgeoning acting career on the back of her YouTube fame (which will see her appear on the big screen alongside LiLo in the not-too-distant future) the Internet is definitely the fastest route to fame. Sometimes unwanted fame, at that.
